SF6 gas vacuum circuit breakers are high voltage circuit breakers that use a combination of SF6 gas and vacuum interrupter technology to extinguish arcs generated during the interruption of high voltage electrical circuits. In these types of circuit breakers, SF6 gas is used as the insulating medium, while vacuum interrupters are used to interrupt the current when the circuit breaker is opened. When the circuit breaker is opened, the contacts inside the interrupter chamber separate and an arc is generated due to the high voltage.
